Manny Parra undergoes surgery on torn labrum in left hip

Manny Parra underwent surgery yesterday to repair a small tear in the labrum of his left hip, but is expected to be fully healthy in time for spring training.

Whether or not that spring training will come with the Brewers is another issue after Parra went 3-10 with a 5.02 ERA in 122 innings this season.

Remarkably, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the enigmatic left-hander never brought up the injury to reporters while getting knocked around all season.

Parra has been horrendous as a starter over the past two years, posting a 6.30 ERA in 43 outings, but actually pitched well after being demoted to the bullpen with a 2.39 ERA and 41/16 K/BB ratio in 37.2 innings. His raw stuff has always been better than his results, so perhaps a full-time move to reliever can salvage Parra’s career once he’s healthy again.
