Mark McGwire and the Cardinals made a stop in the Bay Area for this weekend’s series against the Giants, prompting the obvious rehashing of steroids and timelines, all of which he side-stepped for the most part. Feel free to read all of John Shea’s article from the San Francisco Chronicle if you are truly interested.

Perhaps the most interesting part of these write-ups was when he was asked if former “Bash Brother” Jose Canseco supplied him with steroids:

“I’ll take the high road on that,” said McGwire, refusing to answer but later admitting he got the juice at a gym, where he said it was “readily available.”

There you have it. Honestly, I didn’t even make the connection between the Cardinals playing in San Francisco and some media horde surrounding McGwire. It flew under the radar of an intriguing pitching matchup between Tim Lincecum and young lefty Jaime Garcia. Maybe McGwire officially is just a hitting coach.
