Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas enjoyed a nine-RBI day against the Orioles on Saturday in a 14-6 victory. He tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth inning with a two-run single, pushed the Royals’ lead to 11-4 with a grand slam in the seventh, and tacked on a three-run homer in the ninth.
It’s the second nine-RBI game of the season. Blue Jays 1B/DH Edwin Encarnacion accomplished the feat on August 29 with a three-homer performance against the Tigers. Indians 3B/OF Lonnie Chisenhall knocked in nine in a game last year. Prior to that, it hadn’t been done since 2008.
The performance blows away the previous career-high for Moustakas, which was a five-RBI night against the Blue Jays in July 2012. Moustakas now has 18 home runs and 71 RBI on the year along with a .284/.348/.460 triple-slash line.
