Per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Major League Baseball has fined Dodgers shortstop Manny Machado an undisclosed amount (reportedly $10,000, per Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times) for intentionally running into Jesús Aguilar during Game 4 of the NLCS on Tuesday night. Machado grounded out to shortstop in the 10th inning and dragged his left leg into Aguilar’s right leg, which was on the first base bag. The two jawed at each other and then both teams’ benches emptied. Here’s video:
The two apparently forgave each other for perceived infractions based on the way they interacted with each other after Machado singled in the 13th inning. Other members of the Brewers, as well as Dodgers broadcaster Orel Hershiser, felt Machado’s stunt in the 10th inning was dirty. It was hardly Machado’s first infraction of the series as he drew criticism for failing to run out a ground ball in Game 2 and he made two illegal slides into Orlando Arcia in Game 3 (only one of which was called interference).
Machado, however, scored the game-winning run last night to help the Dodgers even the NLCS at two games apiece. In the series, Machado is hitting .353/.389/.588 with a home run and three RBI. Despite the antics, he is helping the Dodgers stay afloat against the Brewers.
