Toni Ginnetti of the Chicago Sun-Times passes along word that White Sox backup catcher Ramon Castro had to be removed from Saturday’s game against the Twins after breaking a bone in his right hand while receiving a pitch from starter Mark Buehrle.
The White Sox have not commented on the severity of the fracture, but Castro is sure to miss at least three weeks and will almost certainly be placed on the 15-day disabled list before Sunday’s game.
Tyler Flowers, sporting a cool .868 OPS and 14 home runs this season in 268 plate appearances at Triple-A Charlotte, will likely be called up in a corresponding move.
Castro, 35, has hit .235/.307/.456 in 22 games this season while serving as A.J. Pierzynski’s understudy.
