Brandon Wood is like a left-handed reliever: despite years of poor results, he just keeps getting chances.

From Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com comes word that the Rockies have signed the 26-year-old infielder to a minor league contract. He’ll be paid $100,000 over the major league minimum if he manages to land a spot on the Opening Day roster.

Wood batted just .216/.270/.340 with seven home runs and 31 RBI in 272 plate appearances this year between the Angels and Pirates. He’s never posted an OPS above .610 in a major league season.

The Rockies’ front office is likely viewing the former top prospect as organizational depth at third base.
