The Rays announced on Wednesday that the club traded outfielder Mikie Mahtook to the Tigers in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. The Tigers designated outfielder Anthony Gose for assignment to create roster space for Mahtook.
Mahtook, 27, will be under team control through the 2021 season. Over parts of two seasons in the majors, he has hit .231/.275/.410 with 12 home runs and 30 RBI in 311 plate appearances.
Mahtook has played the outfield corners in the big leagues, but spent most of his minor league career in center field. He’ll provide valuable outfield depth for the Tigers this season.
