Aric Almirola fastest in opening Cup practice at Kansas Speedway

The NASCAR America crew explains why Kevin Harvick has a good chance to earn his first victory of the 2019 NASCAR season at Kansas Speedway.

Aric Almirola posted the fastest lap in Friday’s opening Cup practice session at Kansas Speedway.

Almirola (178.153 mph) was followed by Stewart-Haas Racing teammate Clint Bowyer (177.381), Kyle Busch (177.160), Brad Keselowski (176.997) and William Byron (176.939).

The next five were Jimmie Johnson (176.933), Austin Dillon (176.858), Kyle Larson (176.678), Kevin Harvick (176.667) and Alex Bowman (176.603).

Almirola said that SHR was bringing new cars to Kansas Speedway this weekend.

Daniel Hemric ran the most laps at 53. He was 13th on the speed chart with a top lap of 176.223 mph.

Harvick had the best average over 10 consecutive laps at 175.974 mph. He was followed by Keselowski (175.552) and Austin Dillon (175.330).

Final Cup practice is scheduled to be from 2:35 - 3:25 p.m. ET. Qualifying is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET
