With sponsor Auto-Owners Insurance on the No. 78, Furniture Row Racing will pay tribute to the company’s’ 100th anniversary in the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway.
The Lansing, Michigan-based company was founded in 1916 and is in its first season as a sponsor for Martin Truex Jr. The company was first on the No. 78 for last month’s Brickyard 400.
“Darlington has just become an even more exciting race for our Furniture Row Racing team by having the retro Auto-Owners Insurance paint scheme on our Toyota Camry and also my fire suit,” said Truex in a press release, who has clinched a Chase for the Sprint Cup playoff berth. “Auto-Owners has put a lot of creative thought in activating its primary sponsorship, and we would like nothing more than to reward the 100-year-old company with a victory at one of NASCAR’s most celebrated tracks.”
In addition to the paint scheme, Truex’s firesuit will reflect the look of a typical insurance salesperson’s uniform in the 1910s.
The retro paint scheme can be seen on Sept. 4 on NBC
