Vroman

Vroman, the 31st overall pick in this year’s draft, isn’t being counted on to play a significant role this season.

It was the first full practice for the rookie. “Vroman showed a lot before he got hurt,” Chairman Jerry Colangelo said. “He’s going to be a surprise. You need guys like that. He reminds me of Kurt Rambis, a blender, a guy who just fits in and does all kinds of things.” No fantasy value, though.

Vroman is coming back from a broken thumb.

He finished with seven points and five rebounds. The raw materials are there, but he has a lot to learn.

He also had six rebounds, but he committed five turnovers.

Coach Mike D’Antoni used a small lineup tonight and didn’t even put Vroman on the court when the game was out of reach.

The Suns are still talking about starting centers against “big” teams, but the fact is that Quentin Richardson (15 points) and Joe Johnson (22 points)are going to be on the floor whether the Suns start a center or not. The Suns big five - Amare Stoudemire, Shawn Marion, Joe Johnson, Quentin Richardson and Steve Nash - are going to get their minutes and numbers regardless of who the Suns are playing.

Vroman missed six games with a strained left groin.

Vroman won’t receive many minutes.
