J.J. Barea will play through a swollen right thumb injury on Monday against the Warriors.
Barea has a chance to make some noise in fantasy leagues, provided he can start to severely outplay Martell Webster at the two slot. We’ll see how it goes tonight.
  • MIL Point Guard #13
Luke Ridnour appeared to suffer a hand or wrist injury just before halftime on Wednesday.
Martell Webster started in his place for the third quarter, signaling that Ridnour’s night could be over. Stay tuned.
  • NBA Small Forward #2
Wayne Ellington scored 15 points off the bench on Monday against the Suns, hitting 6-of-9 shots from the field (including three treys) with zero rebounds and two assists in 34 minutes.
Ellington leaps ahead of starter Martell Webster (two points, six assists, 20 minutes) in terms of fantasy value with this effort, but that doesn’t say much, if anything at all. J.J. Barea (three points, eight assists, 15 minutes) is still the reserve shooting guard to keep an eye on in Minny.
  • NBA Small Forward #11
Michael Beasley played 11 minutes off the bench on Sunday, compared to 22 minutes for starting SF Wesley Johnson.
Johnson was scoreless on 0-of-4 shooting and has done nothing to justify his starting role, but with Martell Webster (22 minutes) in the mix things aren’t looking good for Beasley. His iso-heavy style of play simply isn’t meshing with coach Rick Adelman’s philosophy, and owners need to cut him loose if they haven’t already.
  • NOP Shooting Guard #14
Martell Webster followed up his season-best 21-point outing on Saturday with zero points in 12 minutes off the bench on Monday.
Webster had just two rebounds and took only two shots, and this takes him back to the bottom of the mountain in the fantasy realm.
  • NBA Small Forward #2
Shooting guard Wayne Ellington had 15 points in 23 minutes off the bench Wednesday, while starter Martell Webster had 11 points in 24 minutes.
Neither player is a must-own in fantasy, but both are worth keeping an eye on in case they get hot.
  • NOP Shooting Guard #14
Martell Webster hit 4-of-7 shots for 12 points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals and two 3-pointers in 32 minutes on Wednesday.
He continues to start and was helped by the fact that Wayne Ellington was out with back spasms tonight, while starting small forward Wes Johnson also played well tonight. Johnson had 11 points, four boards, three assists, two steals and a 3-pointer on 5-of-8 shooting in 30 minutes, but all of these guys are borderline fantasy players due to inconsistency. Just keep an eye on them.
  • NOP Shooting Guard #14
Martell Webster saw 25 minutes of action on Friday, but missed all three of his shot attempts on his way to two points and three rebounds.
Webster wouldn’t normally generate a blurb after a night like this, particularly with J.J. Barea (ankle) out, but with Ricky Rubio’s knee the talk of the NBA he’s a guy you’ll just want to keep in the back of your mind. Luke Ridnour will slide to PG and somebody will fill the shooting guard minutes, but Webster has his work cut out of him to be valuable in fantasy leagues.
  • NOP Shooting Guard #14
Martell Webster scored 18 points with four 3-pointers and five rebounds on Sunday, his second-highest scoring game of the season.
All season long the Wolves have been in need of capable SG/SFs, and even though Webster was hot tonight his counterparts were miserable. Wes Johnson had five points and one rebound in 22 minutes, Michael Beasley had eight points on 3-of-11 shooting, and Wayne Ellington played just 10 minutes off the end of the bench.
  • MIN Center #14
Nikola Pekovic said after Monday’s game that his ankle injury is “not bad.”
Beat writer Jerry Zgoda wondered how the near 300-pound big man would handle rolling his ankle, but this is good news nonetheless. We’re calling him day-to-day, and if the injury is at all serious it wouldn’t be surprising to see Pek held out through the All Star break. Michael Beasley (33 minutes, 17 points, seven boards) and Martell Webster (32 minutes, 10 points, steal, two blocks) looked like the beneficiaries of Pek’s lost minutes tonight.
