Pistons’ big man Greg Monroe has been suspended for two games without pay for pleading guilty to driving while visibly impaired, in violation of the law of the State of Michigan, the NBA announced on Tuesday via official release.
The team released the following statement:
“The organization is aware of the matter resulting in the NBA’s announced two-game suspension for Greg Monroe. Greg has taken responsibility in a conscientious manner and resolved the matter with his representatives.”
A quote from Monroe appeared in the team release, as well:
“I take full responsibility for my actions and made a regrettable mistake. I apologize to my family, the Pistons’ organization, my teammates and fans. I will learn from this and continue my work to be a positive influence in the community.”
Monroe was a restricted free agent this summer, and signed a one-year qualifying offer to play in Detroit next season so that he could become an unrestricted free agent next summer. He averaged 15.2 points and 9.3 rebounds in 32.8 minutes per contest while starting all 82 regular season games last year.
