Back on July 8, Raja Bell and the Utah Jazz reached a verbal agreement to a contract buyout. This wasn’t a rumor from some random “source,” this was something Bell himself confirmed.
But here we are on the final day of July and Bell has yet to sign the actual buyout paperwork, reports the Salt Lake Tribune. Which is pretty unsusual.
Awkward.
Bell was to make $3.4 million next season (we don’t know the buyout amount but it is probably very close to that number). After the buyout Bell would be an unrestricted free agent.
But teams are finishing up their rosters for next season, the number of places he can land is shrinking, and a lot of teams that might have interest likely are only offering one year at the veteran minimum.
We’ll have to see how this plays out.
