Rodney Carney (Memphis), Ronnie Brewer (Arkansas) and Randy Foye (Villanova) all worked out for the Magic on Thursday.
All three are expected to be picked in the 9-15 range on draft night. “Carney is a physical specimen,” GM Otis Smith said. “I think he could be special, a real good player in this league. Brewer is pretty talented. He gets the whole picture. Some of the things he does, you can see his dad [former NBA player Ron Brewer] in him.”
  • Shooting Guard #31
The Bulls selected forward Rodney Carney out of Memphis but he’ll play for the Sixers.
The Sixers took Thabo Sefalosha for the Bulls and will take the highly athletic Carney in return. The Indianapolis product may be the best athlete in the draft and is a deep sleeper for Rookie of the Year if he can get playing time in Philly.
  • MIN Shooting Guard #12
The Bucks hosted free agents Marquis Daniels, Rasual Butler and Rodney Carney during an informal workout session on Monday.
Milwaukee could certainly use more depth at the SG/SF positions, which makes it plausible that they’ll sign someone out of this group. None of these guys have fantasy appeal, regardless of where they land.
  • Shooting Guard #31
Heat waived G/F Rodney Carney and F Jarvis Varnado.
Carney was a training camp invite while Varnado was actually drafted by the team in 2010, but neither had a chance to crack the final roster.
  • DEN Small Forward #3
Mike Miller is scheduled to play for the Heat on Thursday after sitting out the China games.
Rodney Carney is sick and it appears that Miller has gotten enough rest to give it a go tonight.
  • Shooting Guard #31
Heat sign G/F Rodney Carney to a non-guaranteed contract.
Carney was signed for the 20th and final roster spot in training camp, but he is the definition of a long shot to make the team. Carney spent time playing in China last season.
  • FA Head Coach #34
Sixers’ coach Maurice Cheeks has the starting lineup set, with the exception of shooting guard, where he is reportedly deciding between Willie Green and Rodney Carney.
“Both have been great,” Cheeks said of Green and Carney. Green has started all four games he has appeared in this preseason. But no matter who starts, the two could have equal playing time. Green appears to have a better shot at fantasy value this season, but we’d hold off on drafting either of them until we see how the Sixers’ rotation pans out.
  • Shooting Guard #31
Rodney Carney left Tuesday’s brief practice with the flu.
He has no fantasy value this season, anyway.
  • Shooting Guard #31
Rodney Carney made his fourth straight start Sunday against the Blazers, and posted 11 points and six boards.
With Willie Green sidelined, Carney scored nine of the Sixers first 11 points. The 11-point game matched his highest scoring game of the season. Philly does play four times in Week 10, so Carney has some value in deeper leagues.
  • GSW Small Forward #9
Andre Iguodala did not practice yesterday because of the flu, but he traveled with the 76ers to Atlanta. Consider him a game-time decision.
Hopefully Iguodala doesn’t have the same strain of the flu that Clippers’ Corey Maggette and Chris Kaman had, since both of those players missed four games. If he misses any time, expect Thaddeus Young and Rodney Carney to play extra minutes.
