Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News reports Chiefs co-OC Brad Childress is “out of the picture” for the Bills’ vacant offensive coordinator position.
It is not clear why he has been dropped from the race, but it is possible the Chiefs blocked the move like they did when fellow co-OC Matt Nagy was drawing interest from the Jets earlier this month. With Childress gone, the Bills are running out of options. Former Jaguars OC Greg Olson is scheduled to interview on Thursday, and he looks like the best candidate remaining.
  • Chiefs co-OC Brad Childress is a leading candidate to fill the Bills’ vacancy at offensive coordinator.
The former Vikings head coach has spent the last four years in Kansas City, first working as a spread game analyst before being promoted to co-offensive coordinator. Moving to Buffalo would reunite Childress with Leslie Frazier, who was recently hired as Bills defensive coordinator. The Bills are also considering former Jaguars OC Greg Olson for the same position. If Childress leaves, Matt Nagy would take over as Kansas City’s offensive coordinator.
  • Chiefs promoted Brad Childress to offensive coordinator.
He’ll replace Doug Pederson, who moved to Philadelphia to become the Eagles’ head coach. “Chilly” turns 60 this offseason and has spent the last three seasons as the Chiefs’ “spread game analyst,” or an offensive consultant. He last coordinated the Browns’ offense in 2012, a year in which Cleveland finished 24th in points scored and 25th in total yards. Andy Reid will continue to call plays and lead the Chiefs’ offense in 2016.
  • Chiefs assistant head coach Brad Childress is retiring.
The ex-Vikings head coach spent the past five years as one of Andy Reid’s top assistants in Kansas City. Reid must now replace both “Chilly” and OC Matt Nagy, who has accepted the Bears’ head-coaching position. Coaching football since 1978, Childress has been in the NFL since 1999. He was a Brett Favre mistake away from taking the 2009 Vikings to Super Bowl XLIV.
  • Bears hired Brad Childress as offensive consultant.
Childress “retired” from the Chiefs last month. Evidently Andy Reid didn’t want him back as assistant head coach. Childress is “very close” to ex-Chiefs coordinator and new Bears coach Matt Nagy. “Chilly” turns 62 in June.
