Raiders declared TE Michael Mayer, WR Dont’e Thornton, RB Zamir White, QB Aidan O’Connell, CB Darnay Holmes, WR Alex Bachman and DT Leki Fotu inactive for Week 14 against the Broncos.
Mayer has been sidelined since injuring his ankle in Week 12 against the Browns. Raiders head coach Pete Carroll said he expects rookie WR Jack Bech to be more involved with Thornton, a fellow rookie, sidelined this week. Thornton has caught just 8-of-25 targets for 123 yards this season, though, so his absence in the passing game is hardly significant. Bech should not be started against the Broncos’ elite defense. Raiders EDGE Maxx Crosby (knee) is active, as expected.

Raiders re-signed CB Darnay Holmes to a one-year contract.
Holmes appeared in 16 games for the Raiders last season while making one start. The veteran corner totaled 30 tackles and three pass breakups and also appeared on 77 special teams snaps. Holmes won’t be earning a starting role in 2025, as he’s started only 12 games in his five-year career. That said, he should provide solid depth for a secondary that’s looking to improve on last year’s top-15 finish.
  • NYG Defensive Back #30
Giants re-signed CB Darnay Holmes to a one-year contract.
Holmes saw the majority of his reps on special teams in 2023 but still made a few high-impact plays on defense. He picked off two passes and forced one fumble while only playing 123 defensive snaps. Holmes logged 194 snaps on special teams. He will return for a similar role in 2024.
  • NYG Defensive Back #30
Giants restructured the contract of CB Darnay Holmes.
As teams trim their rosters to 53 men by Tuesday, Holmes’ status with the Giants appears to be safe. The fourth-year vet has appeared in 38 games since entering the league in 2020, which includes 11 starts. He appeared on a career-high 572 defensive snaps last season per PFF, earning a coverage grade of 49.5.

Darnay Holmes (shoulder/arm) left the Giants’ Week 17 game against the Colts.
Holmes got injured making a play on a screen pass thrown by Nick Foles. He got up slow but was able to walk off the field under his own power. He has returned to action.

  • LV Cornerback #30
Giants CB Darnay Holmes (knee) is out for Week 15 against the Browns.
Holmes has played in the slot on 88% of his defensive snaps this season after being selected in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. His absence comes at a bad time with Jarvis Landry visiting. The Giants also placed CB James Bradberry on the COVID-19 list earlier this week.

  • LV Cornerback #30
Giants rookie CB Darnay Holmes could start opposite James Bradberry.
Holmes has been one of the bigger risers at Giants camp. He’s locked in a top-three role and may be the favorite to start outside. With DeAndre Baker on the Exempt List and Ross Cockrell backing out of his deal, the Giants are counting on Holmes to play a major role.

Giants selected UCLA CB Darnay Holmes with the No. 110 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
The former No. 1 cornerback recruit in the country upon graduating from Calabasas High School, Holmes (5'10"/195) handpicked and started in 33-of-35 career games across three seasons as an outside corner for the hometown Bruins. Holmes’ stubby arms (29 1/2", third-shortest among this year’s class) match his shorter stature, likely causing coaches to pigeonhole him into the slot at the next level. His straight-line speed requires no such discussion as his collegiate highlight reel includes matching speedsters Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown and Laviska Shenault (among others) stride-for-stride up the seam. He’s also a shoe-in for special teams after averaging 23.1 yards per kickoff return (38/878/1) at UCLA. Holmes’ lacking strength and tendency to gamble on double-moves won’t win him any favors among his next coaching staff, but he’ll be hard to take off the field given his versatility at the position.

NFL Media’s Lance Zierlein writes UCLA CB Darnay Holmes plays with “good aggression.”
Holmes (5'10/195) has seen a bit of a fall from glory since a year or so ago. Heading into the 2019 season, Holmes was an athletic prototype with the potential to climb into the top ranks of the CB class. However, the 2019 season did not go very well for Holmes (or UCLA as a whole) and he has fallen down the ladder. Zierlein props up Holmes for his “smooth” and “aggressive” play style, but has concerns over Holmes’ instincts whenever he is in off coverage. Perhaps all Holmes needs is a reset away from a collapsing UCLA program. Zierlein grades out Holmes as a developmental prospect.
