Baylor redshirt junior WR Gavin Holmes (knee) is listed as a starter on the depth chart for Saturday’s game against Houston.
Holmes (5'11/201) has twice torn his ACL during his time with the Bears, most recently being held out of the 2019 campaign due to a serious knee injury suffered November of the previous season. Back healthy, finally, it would appear. When last the redshirt junior posted any statistical marks (in 2017), he logged a 13-166-2 receiving line. Baylor’s other starters at receiver on Saturday along with Holmes will be RJ Sneed and Tyquan Thornton.

Baylor sophomore WR Gavin Holmes won’t play this season after suffering a torn ACL.
Sad news here, as Holmes had spent the last calendar year rehabbing a torn ACL he suffered in mid-November last year. He has since torn his ACL for a second time, which will restart the rehab process. Holmes will take a redshirt this year and enter next year as a third-year sophomore. The timing of this injury leaves his 2019 campaign in jeopardy.

Three-star 2017 WR Gavin Holmes committed to Iowa.
Iowa secured Holmes’ commitment over the likes of Boise State, Bowling Green, Kansas and Wisconsin. He had been pledging his heart to Duke in the month prior to this turnaround to the Midwest. ESPN notes that the 5-foot-11, 178-pounder is “sneaky fast.” The outlet loves his ability to create separation despite the fact that he lacks a true home-run gear on vertical passes. They refer to him as "[v]ery savvy and crafty” in terms of his route-running.

Iowa three-star 2017 verbal WR commit Gavin Holmes reopened his recruitment.
Holmes took to Twitter to announce the resumption of his recruitment and offered a lengthy explanation for his backing off a Hawkeye commitment that had stood since July. Among the reasons the 5-foot-11, 178-pound wideout offered, the fact that Iowa does not allow their recruits to visit other schools and the general sluggishness of Iowa’s offense. This is Holmes’ second decommitment in less than half a year. Prior to opting for -- and then later soundly rejecting -- Iowa, he had been committed to Duke.

Uncommitted three-star 2017 WR Gavin Holmes took an official visit to Arizona State.
“I really trust that the coaching staff [at Arizona State] would help me get to where I want to go,” Holmes said, “and I just have great relationships with all of them and I felt at home.” The 5-foot-11, 178-pounder had been committed to Iowa over the summer, but reopened his recruitment this past fall. Holmes -- a native of Justin, Texas -- will be taking an official visit Baylor next weekend. Notre Dame, Nebraska and Oklahoma are also possible landing spots for Scout.com’s No. 88 wideout in the 2017 class.

Baylor signed three-star 2017 WR Gavin Holmes.
Holmes had been committed to Iowa from July through mid-November. He then reopened his recruitment. He took official visits to Nebraska, Arizona State and Baylor, with the latter two officials coming in January. The 5-foot-11, 178-pounder has been clocked at a 4.43 seconds in the 40-yard dash and Scout.com’s Gabe Brooks writes that he “combines great top-end speed with foot quickness and lateral mobility.” Holmes went off for an 83-1549-15 receiving line as a senior at Northwest High School (Texas).

Baylor freshman WR Gavin Holmes was carted off the field with an apparent knee injury during Saturday’s game against Texas Tech.
Holmes has been ruled out for the remainder of the contest. This injury, if as serious as it seemed on the field, could threaten the remainder of the freshman’s season. The 5-foot-11, 178-pounder was a three-star recruit in the 2017 recruiting class.

Following Saturday’s loss to Texas Tech, Baylor HC Matt Rhule said that the outlook for freshman WR Gavin Holmes (leg) is not promising.
Holmes was carted off the field after sustaining a leg injury, possibly something with his knee. Unless the 5-foot-11, 178-pounder is able to turn in a rapid comeback he may very well be done for the campaign. His availability for the remainder should see clarity in the coming days.
