Jets quarterback Brady Cook has thrown his first NFL touchdown pass.

Cook hit wide receiver Adonai Mitchell for a nine-yard score with 1:47 left to play in the first quarter in Jacksonville. Cook played his first NFL snaps last week after Tyrod Taylor was hurt and is making his first NFL start on Sunday.

Cook was 4-of-4 on the drive, including a 25-yard strike to wide receiver Isaiah Williams that he delivered on the move to convert a third down. He is 6-of-6 for 51 yards overall.

The Jaguars opened the game with an easy touchdown drive and then had to go just 38 yards for their second score. The Jets opted to go for it on a fourth-and-1 from their 44-yard line and running back Breece Hall was dropped for a six-yard loss to set the Jags up for a Trevor Lawrence rushing touchdown.

NFL Week 16 Preview: Jaguars vs. Broncos
Playoff implications are on the line for Jacksonville heading into their matchup against Denver, which is why Chris Simms and Mike Florio predict the red-hot Jaguars will give a serious challenge to the Broncos.

The Jaguars didn’t waste any time taking a lead over the Jets in Jacksonville on Sunday.

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence closed out a 72-yard drive with a four-yard pass to wide receiver Brian Thomas in the end zone. The extra point made it 7-0 Jaguars with less than five minutes off the clock in the first quarter.

It is the second touchdown catch of the season for Thomas and he also had a 16-yard catch earlier in the drive. Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers also had two catches for first downs and the Jaguars did not face a third down on the drive.

Rookie quarterback Brady Cook is making his first start for the Jets and he’ll have to come from behind to have a chance to make it a winning one.

The Bills will be missing a key defensive piece as they try to keep the Patriots from clinching the AFC East in New England on Sunday.

Cornerback Christian Benford is inactive for the game. Benford was added to the injury report on Thursday with a toe issue and he missed practice on Friday before being listed as questionable.

Benford had a big hand in each of the Bills’ last two wins. He returned a fumble for a touchdown and had an interception to help them beat the Steelers in Week 13 and he returned an interception for the go-ahead score against the Bengals in the fourth quarter last Sunday.

Jets undrafted rookie quarterback Brady Cook will get the first start of his NFL career on Sunday against the Jaguars.

Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor have both been ruled out with injuries, which leaves Cook to start, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn announced today.

“Tyrod will be out, Justin will be out,” Glenn said. “That means Brady will be our starting quarterback this week. He’s gotten all the reps with the ones.”

Adrian Martinez, who just signed with the Jets on Wednesday, will back Cook up on Sunday.

Glenn said he’s been pleased with the way Cook has prepared himself to start and is confident Cook will develop into a good NFL starting quarterback.

Still, it’s highly unlikely that an undrafted rookie in a bad offense is going to look like a good starting quarterback in the first start of his career. The Jaguars are 13.5-point favorites against the Jets on Sunday in Jacksonville.

It doesn’t look like the Jaguars have anything to worry about with quarterback Trevor Lawrence for Sunday’s game against the Jets.

Lawrence was listed as a full participant in practice on Thursday. He was a limited participant due to an ankle injury on Wednesday.

Left tackle Walker Little (concussion), defensive lineman BJ Green (knee), and safety Andrew Wingard (concussion) also moved up to full participation.

Wide receiver Parker Washington (hip), tight end Quintin Morris (ankle), and left guard Ezra Cleveland (shoulder) remained limited participants. Defensive tackle Arik Armstead (hand), defensive end Travon Walker (knee), and cornerback Jarrian Jones (neck) were all full participants for the second straight day.

Signs are pointing toward Brady Cook starting at quarterback for the Jets in Sunday’s game against the Jaguars.

Tyrod Taylor and Justin Fields missed practice for the second straight day on Thursday, which leaves Cook as the only quarterback on the active roster who is taking part in the team’s on-field work. Cook is also on the injury report, but has been listed as a full participant with a knee injury.

The Jets signed Adrian Martinez to their practice squad and he would likely be elevated to serve as the team’s backup.

Linebacker Kiko Mauigoa (neck), tight end Mason Taylor (neck), and cornerback Azareye’h Thomas (shoulder) also missed practice. Running back Breece Hall (knee), defensive tackle Harrison Phillips (rest), linebacker Quincy Williams (hand), and tight end Stone Smartt (concussion) moved up to limited participation.

Safety Tony Adams (groin), linebacker Cam Jones (hip), and edge rusher Jermaine Johnson (rest) were full participants.

Jets rookie quarterback Brady Cook handled the first-team reps on Wednesday with veterans Tyrod Taylor (groin) and Justin Fields (knee) out of practice.

“That does a lot for any quarterback especially with building continuity with the rest of the guys,” Jets coach Aaron Glenn said of Cook, via Eric Allen of the team website. “Set points as far as where he’s going to be at for the O-line, receiver-quarterback communication. Anytime you get reps like that with the first team with a different quarterback, it always helps. It will be good for him, but again we’ll see how this week progresses when it comes to our quarterback situation.”

Fields and Taylor were among 10 Jets who did not practice on Wednesday.

“A lot it is just maintenance for the most part, so we can get our guys rested and ready to play,” Glenn said.

Running back Breece Hall (knee), edge rusher Jermaine Johnson (rest), linebacker Kiko Mauigoa (neck), defensive lineman Harrison Phillips (rest), tight end Stone Smartt (concussion), tight end Mason Taylor (neck), cornerback Azareye’h Thomas (shoulder) and linebacker Quincy Williams (hand) also were non-participants.

Safety Tony Adams (groin) was a full participant.

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence is on the Jaguars’ injury report this week.

The Jaguars listed Lawrence as limited on the team’s first practice report ahead of their game against the Jets. Lawrence was 17-of-30 for 244 yards and two touchdowns in last Sunday’s 36-19 win over the Colts. Nick Mullens played quarterback late in the game, but that was due to the score rather than an injury.

Wide receiver Parker Washington (hip), tight end Quintin Morris (ankle), left guard Ezra Cleveland (shoulder), defensive lineman BJ Green (knee), safety Andrew Wingard (concussion), and left tackle Walker Little (concussion) were also listed as limited.

Defensive tackle Arik Armstead (hand), defensive end Travon Walker (knee), and cornerback Jarrian Jones (neck) were full participants.

On the same day the Colts gave a tryout to 44-year-old quarterback Philip Rivers, they also worked out a quarterback literally half his age.

22-year-old free-agent Seth Henigan had a tryout on Tuesday, per the league’s daily transaction report.

Henigan was undrafted out of Memphis in April. He spent time with the Jaguars during the offseason and training camp. Released from the Jacksonville practice squad in September, Henigan had a tryout last week with the Falcons.

It’s one thing to lose out to another journeyman. Henigan finished second in a two-man tryout with a Hall of Fame finalst.

The best news is that Henigan has a story he can someday tell his grandkids. (And Rivers can literally do that right now.)

There will be plenty of reps for quarterback Brady Cook at Wednesday’s Jets practice.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn announced at his press conference that neither Tyrod Taylor nor Justin Fields will participate in the team’s first practice session of the week. Cook is the only other quarterback on either the active roster or the practice squad.

Glenn has not named a starter for this Sunday’s game against the Jaguars.

Taylor was knocked out of last Sunday’s loss to the Dolphins by a first-half groin injury. Fields was inactive for that game due to knee soreness, which left Cook to get his first NFL regular season action. The undrafted rookie was 14-of-30 for 163 yards and two interceptions.

Glenn said that running back Breece Hall will also miss practice with a sore knee. Isaiah Davis, Kene Nwangwu, and Khalil Herbert are the Jets’ other backs.
