The Jaguars announced an addition to their active roster on Wednesday.

They signed defensive lineman Matt Dickerson off of their practice squad. Dickerson has appeared in three games as a temporary elevation already this season.

Dickerson had two tackles while seeing time on defense and special teams in those appearances. He has played in 40 other games for the Dolphins, Chiefs, Falcons, and Titans since the start of the 2018 season. He has 44 career tackles.

There was no need for a corresponding move beacause the Jaguars waived wide receiver Austin Trammell earlier this week. They also announced that Trammell has returned to their practice squad on Wednesday.

Rams, Texans lead NFL Week 18 best bets
Mike Florio and Chris Simms run through their best bets for the last week of the NFL regular season, discussing the Los Angeles Rams and Houston Texans as teams likely to win.

Punters don’t often receive personal fouls for unsportsmanlike conduct, but Logan Cooke of the Jaguars got one for his involvement in a post-play scrum during Sunday’s win over the Jaguars.

After the game, Titans running back Julius Chestnut alleged that Cooke “said he would kill me” during an interaction. On Monday, Jaguars head coach Liam Coen was asked about his reaction to that comment.

Coen said that his experience in the NFL has been that it was nothing out of the ordinary.

“I’ve probably heard that said, I mean, 100 times from players in games. So, whatever,” Coen said in a video conference with reporters.

Jaguars long snapper Ross Matiscik and Titans cornerback Kaiir Elam were also penalized for their roles in the altercation while Titans safety Mike Brown was ejected. Any NFL discipline for the affair will be doled out later this week.

Jaguars defensive tackle Davon Hamilton was pressed into double duty during Sunday’s win over the Titans.

Hamilton played 15 defensive snaps as part of Jacksonville’s rotation on the defensive line and he also stepped into action on special teams. Long snapper Ross Matiscik missed the second quarter of the game with a back injury, which led the team to turn to Hamilton on an extra point, three punts and a field goal just before halftime.

All five snaps went off without a hitch and Hamilton made a tackle on one of the punts. Matiscik returned to action in the second half and Hamilton called his cameo “definitely a dream that came true” after the 25-3 win.

“It was very cool,” Hamilton said, via the team’s website. “It’s something I’ve been working on for about six years in the league, so it has been interesting. Haven’t got my opportunity until today and it was very exciting. Definitely not something I want to do on a day-to-day basis, obviously, but it was fun.”

The Jaguars enjoyed a comfortable win, but things could have gotten dicier if Hamilton hadn’t stepped in as well as he did on Sunday. While that won’t make anyone in Jacksonville clamor for an encore, it will provide some comfort if anything should happen with Matiscik in a future game.

Tempers flared in Tennessee on Sunday afternoon as the Titans and Jaguars combined for 23 penalties, including six personal fouls, for 184 yards. Titans safety Mike Brown was ejected for his role in a fight after a punt in the fourth quarter.

Brown went after Jaguars long snapper Ross Matiscik after Matiscik took a shot at Titans running back Julius Chestnut. Matiscik and Jaguars punter Logan Cooke were among the three other players whom officials penalized.

Chestnut said postgame that Cooke threatened him.

He said he would kill me,” Chestnut said of his interaction with Cooke, via Nick Suss of The Tennessean. “That’s what he said. He came up to me and said he’d kill me. Never heard that one before. That was strange. Especially a punter, you know. It was strange.”

Logan’s frustration with Chestnut began with the punt before the fisticuffs when Chestnut blocked Cooke on a long return by Titans returner Chimere Dike. Cooke stopped Dike after a 47-yard return with 14:06 left in the fourth quarter.

Cooke was evaluated for a concussion and cleared, allowing Cooke and Chestnut to square off on the next punt. Chestnut was not penalized.

Colts quarterback Daniel Jones’ fibula injury remained a focus of attention after Sunday’s 20-16 loss to the Texans.

Jones did not confirm reports that he is playing with a fracture, but looked less mobile than usual and, per Stephen Holder of ESPN.com, completed 2-of-11 passes while under pressure during the game. Jones went 14-of-27 for 201 yards and two touchdowns before saying that he feels he’s healthy enough to continue playing.

“I feel good enough to play,” Jones said. “Doctors cleared me to play, so that’s what I’m going to do.”

The Colts have lost three of four after opening the season 7-1 and a loss to the Jaguars next week will knock them out of first place in the AFC South heading into the final four games of the year. Based on recent performances, Jones’ injury will complicate their chances of putting an end to their skid.

After a big day in the AFC South, the Jaguars are the division leaders.

The Jaguars went to Tennessee and beat the Titans 25-3 today, and combining that with the Texans win over the Colts, Jacksonville is in first place. The Jaguars and Colts are both 8-4, but the Jaguars have the tiebreaker based on their record against common opponents.

The Jaguars play the Colts next week, and then play them again in Week 17, so the AFC South race remains wide open.

Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence completed 16 of 27 passes for 229 yards, with two touchdowns and no interceptions. He also ran the ball three times for 25 yards, and scored a two-point conversion on another run.

“It feels good,” Lawrence said on CBS after the game. “To be in this position, to be able to control your own destiny and be able to play these big, meaningful games in November, December, January.”

The Jaguars will definitely be playing big games down the stretch, and they have an opportunity to turn this into a very big season.

An otherwise dull Jaguars-Titans game turned feisty in the fourth quarter today.

Titans safety Mike Brown was ejected for his role in a fight after a punt, and three other players were flagged for personal fouls.

Brown went after Jaguars long snapper Ross Matiscik after Matiscik took a shot at Tennessee’s Julius Chestnut. Brown got ejected; Matiscik got a personal foul for unnecessary roughness but was not ejected.

Also flagged for unnecessary roughness personal fouls were Jaguars punter Logan Cooke and Titans cornerback Kair Elamn.

The Titans haven’t had much fight other than that incident, as they’re losing 25-3 in the fourth quarter.

Dave Caldwell is heading back to Florida.

The former Jaguars G.M. has been hired as the University of Florida’s G.M. of football operations, via ESPN.com.

Tulane coach Jon Sumrall, as expected, will be the Gators’ new head coach.

Caldwell served as the Jacksonville G.M. from 2013 through 2020, building the team that nearly secured a berth in Super Bowl LII. Since 2021, he has worked as a personnel executive with the Eagles. Philadelphia G.M. Howie Roseman went to college at Florida.

Florida fired Billy Napier last month. Sumrall emerged as the favorite after a flirtation with Lane Kiffin, who shifted his focus to LSU.

Jacksonville is making it look easy today in Tennessee.

Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence has two touchdown passes in the early going, and Lawrence ran for a two-point conversion after the second TD pass, as the Jaguars took a 15-3 lead over the Titans.

Through three offensive drives, Lawrence is 6-for-7 for 122 yards, with two touchdowns. The Titans jumped offside on the Jaguars’ second extra point attempt, and after the ball was moved half the distance to the goal line, the Jaguars sent their offense on the field and Lawrence ran it in for the two-point conversion.

Titans defensive lineman Jeffrey Simmons committed a personal foul on the conversion attempt, and the Jaguars again took advantage, purposely kicking off out of bounds from the 50-yard line, which gave the Titans the ball at their own 25-yard line to start the next possession.

It’s been a mistake-filled game for the Titans, and the Jaguars are threatening to turn it into a blowout.

The Jaguars will be missing a key piece on their defensive line in Tennessee on Sunday.

Defensive tackle Arik Armstead will not play against the Titans. Armstead was listed as questionable because of a hand injury. Armstead has 23 tackles, 5.5 sacks and a forced fumble this season.

The Jaguars are 7-4 heading into Sunday’s game. A win and a Colts loss would draw them even in the AFC South ahead of a Week 14 matchup between the teams.
