49ers now think they’ll lose Gore

Well, that changed quickly.

49ers owner Jed York recently said he thinks his team will find a way to bring back running back Frank Gore. Now, the 49ers are reportedly resigned to the fact that Gore will be gone.

Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, the 49ers believe they’ll be losing Gore to another team. It has prompted the 49ers to begin looking at the free-agency market for potential replacements.

In hindsight, it could be that the 49ers badly misread the market for Gore, who is drawing interest from at least the Eagles and Colts. As the market for running backs generally rebounds from a multi-year depression, that could make it much more expensive for San Francisco to bring in a Plan B.
