Attorney says LeSean McCoy “did nothing wrong”

As the investigation regarding Bills running back LeSean McCoy’s role in a Super Bowl weekend nightclub fracas continues, one of the men paid to pursue McCoy’s innocence not surprisingly is proclaiming it.

Via Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News, attorney Dennis Cogan said that McCoy is innocent.

“We trust that they are really taking time to consider all the surrounding circumstances,” Cogan said regarding the lingering investigation. “But I’m here to say and I’m telling you that McCoy did nothing wrong, nothing wrong. And he was sober. The questions will have to be asked about the conditions of other people.”

A source close to the investigation told Carucci that the Philadelphia District Attorney will likely hold a press conference to share its findings on Thursday or Friday.

“It’s truly extraordinary to have this kind of a delay in this kind of case,” a source close to the investigation told Carucci. “It’s not a six-month investigation where there’s wire taps and surveillance and confidential informants placed inside of a drug organization. This is, essentially, a simple bar fight. And it raises all sorts of questions about the extent to which the prosecutor’s office is confident in the information that’s been provided them.”

Or maybe the prosecutor is simply being cautious, because the prosecutor knows that the case is being handled by a quality of attorney that the run-of-the-mill, indigent defendant can’t afford.

Whatever happens with any possible criminal charges, which will stick only with proof beyond a reasonable doubt, the NFL can discipline McCoy under a much lower standard of proof.
