Of all the fifth-year options for those chosen in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft, this one might have been among the easiest.

The Bears announced they had picked up the option on guard Kyle Long, making sure he’s under contract through the 2017 season.

Long has already been to a Pro Bowl, and he might be poised to be even better this season now that he’s expected back in his natural position.

With the Bears signing Bobby Massie in free agency, the expectation is that Long will move back inside to guard, a move he seems to be happy with.

They also added veteran guards Ted Larsen and Manny Ramirez, and could use an upgrade at left tackle, but getting Long back inside makes their line more solid immediately.
