Bears receiver Sam Hurd has been arrested on federal drug charges.

The Dallas Morning News reports that the arrest took place in Chicago but relates to an attempt to purchase drugs from a supplier in North Texas, and that a Texas-based office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement is handling the investigation. Hurd played for the Cowboys from 2006 to 2010.

Hurd has played in 12 games for the Bears this season, mostly on special teams. On offense he has eight catches for 109 yards.

The criminal complaint accuses Hurd of conspiring to possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine.

The Bears released the following statement on the situation: “We are aware of Sam’s arrest and are continuing to gather details surrounding it. We are disappointed whenever these circumstances arise. We will deal with them appropriately once we have all the information.”
