There have been reports before that the Bengals were close to a new deal with defensive tackle Geno Atkins, which nothing came of.
But when the team’s official website writer says something’s cooking, it bears watching.
Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com says he’s “hearing” the Bengals and Atkins are “close to a mega extension.”
Hobson has a long career and excellent credentials. and in this case, a mutual employer with Atkins, so his sources could be quite good.
Locking up the disruptive pass-rusher has long been a priority for the Bengals, who enter the season a contender based on a strong defense.
UPDATE 9:53 a.m. ET: Joe Reedy, who works for the Cincinnati Enquirer and not the team, has now tweeted that the deal is agreed to.
