The Bengals made the first of their cuts to 53 players on Friday when they announced that safety Jimmy Wilson has been released.

Wilson signed with the team just before the start of training camp and made five tackles while appearing all four preseason games with the team. His departure would seem to indicate that seventh-round pick Clayton Fejedelem has, at least initially, made the club as a backup safety.

Wilson spent some time with the Chiefs in the offseason before getting cut and signing with the Bengals. He played 13 games for the Chargers in 2015 and played in 60 games for the Dolphins between 2011 and 2014.

The Bengals have many more moves to make before they get to the roster deadline, although one player who might have been cut will get a stay of execution thanks to linebacker Vontaze Burfict’s suspension to start the season.
