BENGALS RELEASE DEXTER JACKSON

The Bengals parted ways with former Super Bowl MVP Dexter Jackson and three other players on Friday. Jackson, who was due to make $2 million in 2009, was limited to three games with the Bengals in 2008 because of thumb and hamstring injuries. He played three seasons with the Bengals, compiling 162 tackles and three interceptions over 29 games. Jackson left the Buccaneers for Arizona after winning the MVP in Super Bowl XXXVII in 2003. He signed with the Cardinals as a free agent and bounced back to the Bucs for a couple of seasons before joining the Bengals. Jackson’s injury trouble forced the Bengals to place him on the injured reserve in October. They signed Chris Crocker to take his place on the roster, which is exactly what Crocker wound up doing. Crocker played well and re-signed with the team on February 27th, for four years and $10 million, likely sealing Jackson’s fate. The Bengals also waived guard James Blair, cornerback Marcus Brown and defensive end Victor DeGrate. All three spent time on the Bengals practice squad in 2008.
