Brian Leonard suffered “significant” foot injury

A disappointment as a second round pick in St. Louis, Brian Leonard has carved out a key role as a third-down back/fullback/jack of all trades in Cincinnati.

That’s why Carson Palmer is worried about his teammate’s foot injury.

“I’m very concerned. He’s a big-time player for us and we have a lot of things built in specifically for him. So the quicker he gets back the better,” Palmer said.

Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer says Leonard will see a specialist after taking tests in Cincinnati on Monday. Early signs aren’t good. Reedy says diagnosis thus far ranges anywhere from Leonard “missing the rest of the preseason to being out for the year.”

The Bengals are down to two healthy running backs on the roster. Luckily, they are the best two -- Cedric Benson and Bernard Scott.
