The Buccaneers are down to two quarterbacks for the time being.
The club waived third-stringer Mike Kafka on Monday, according to Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com.
The 27-year-old Kafka was called up from the practice squad in late September with Josh McCown on the mend with a thumb injury. McCown returned to the active roster on Week Eight, backing up Mike Glennon in Tampa Bay’s 19-13 loss to Minnesota.
It’s possible Kafka could be re-signed to the practice squad. According to Smith, the Buccaneers opened two practice squad spots Monday, placing cornerback Derrius Brooks on injured reserve and releasing wide receiver Eric Page. The team does not currently have a quarterback on the practice squad.
Buccaneers.com also reported the team didn’t immediately fill Kafka’s roster spot, leaving the club with 52 players, one short of the limit.
