During the early rounds of the 2016 NFL draft, Dick Vitale announced one of the Tampa Bay draft picks -- with the kind of characteristically over-the-top flair that should make all NFL fans grateful he gravitated toward basketball. Later in the process, the Buccaneers selected a guy with the same last name.
On Saturday, the Bucs signed sixth-rounder Danny Vitale to a four-year contract.
The former Northwestern tight end, who not only is no relation to Dicky V. but also pronounces the last name differently (vy-TAL-ee), likely will continue to be a versatile presence, lining up in the slot, lining up tight to the line, and playing fullback.
The Bucs don’t have a true fullback on the roster; they opted not to re-sign fullback Jorvorskie Lane.
