After months of rumors and speculation that his career might be over, Buccaneers running back Cadillac Williams returned to the practice field on Wednesday. In 2007, Williams ruptured a patellar tendon and was lost for the year. He commenced the 2008 season on the Physically Unable to Perfom list. After Week Six and before Week Nine, a player on the PUP list may return to practice. The team then has three weeks to either add the player to the active roster or place him on injured reserve. “It’s been a long time,” said Williams, according to the Pewter Report. “This is the beginning, and the next couple of weeks will tell how I’m doing in practice. It’s not something where I’m practicing today and they’re going to throw me in the game on Sunday and give me the ball. We’re going to be careful with it, but at the same time this is an exciting time for me.” Williams was the fifth overall pick in the 2005 draft. If he can play, he’ll join a backfield that includes Earnest Graham and Warrick Dunn.
