Panthers quarterback Cam Newton already said it was nothing serious, and Panthers coach Ron Rivera has already said Ron Rivera would play.

But when the reigning MVP doesn’t throw for two days of practice in a row, it’s still worth noting.

Via Bill Voth of Black and Blue Review, Newton did not throw during the portion of practice open to reporters today.

He had an MRI on his throwing shoulder earlier this week, but no structural damage was found. And the Panthers still have an extra day to prepare for Monday’s game with Washington, so Newton has time to get himself ready.

But mostly, the fact he needs days off now underscores the abuse he’s taken on the field this year, and how preventing it needs to be an offseason priority for the Panthers.
