Cardinals Contending With Tight Salary Cap

In the wake of signing safety Adrian Wilson to a five-year, $37 million contract and increasing his salary cap figure for this season to nearly $10.2 million, the Arizona Cardinals are suddenly dealing with an extremely tight financial situation. According to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic, the Cardinals are now roughly $1.5 million under the NFL salary cap limit. Unless a long-term deal is negotiated with franchise linebacker Karlos Dansby to lower his $9.7 million cap impact for 2009, then it will be extremely difficult to have enough money left over for the lucrative contract that Pro Bowl wide receiver Anquan Boldin has been seeking. Cardinals General Manager Rod Graves reiterated after signing Wilson that Dansby ranks next on the team’s list of priorities to receive a new deal. So, Boldin, who has two years remaining on his current deal, will probably have to continue waiting, per the report. And Boldin, who has skipped voluntary team workouts and switched agents to Tom Condon, has already shown that his patience is basically at an end.
