Syracuse defensive end Chandler Jones has earned a lot of praise in the weeks leading up to the draft, including Mike Mayock of the NFL Network saying that he could turn out to be the best defensive player in the draft.
That’s a big change for a player who was told he’d be a third-rounder by the Draft Advisory Board. His potential as a pass rusher has helped push him way up draft boards of several teams. The Jets are reportedly one of them. Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com reports that the Jets are considering a trade up to make sure they secure Jones to be the edge rusher the defense is missing.
Not all the news on Jones is good. Mike Florio is at Radio City Music Hall and he reports that Jones has a toe problem that could cause him to slide lower than expected. The two things may not be mutually exclusive as inflated worry over a toe problem could help Jones fall to a team that wants to get him later in the first round.
Jones was already a player to keep an eye on during the first round. Now there’s an extra reason.
