During the offseason, the Chargers signed safety Jimmy Wilson to a two-year, $4.85 million contract.

Wilson is done in San Diego before seeing out the first year of that deal, however. The Chargers announced Tuesday that they have dropped Wilson after 13 games with the team.

Wilson made six starts among those appearances and finishes his brief stay in San Diego with 44 tackles, a sack and two passes defensed. Like all players cut at this point in the season, Wilson is eligible for waivers.

Wilson spent four years with the Dolphins, San Diego’s opponent this week, before moving to the Chargers, so he might draw some interest from teams looking for experience in the safety for the final weeks of the season and, depending on the team, the postseason. He’s due to make $2 million next year, but a claiming team could move on in the offseason without any cap hit.
