Cofield Didn’t Have Microfracture Knee Surgery

One week after questions were raised about whether New York Giants defensive tackle Barry Cofield underwent microfracture knee surgery, Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger is reporting that Cofield didn’t have microfacture surgery. Instead, it was “just a complicated/advanced scope,” Garafolo wrote on his Twitter account, citing multiple sources. “He’s ahead of schedule and should be ready for camp, though maybe not fully,” Garafolo wrote of Cofield. Giants defensive tackle Fred Robbins did have microfracture knee surgery this offseason. If Robbins and Cofield are sidelined for an extended period, then the Giants can turn toward newly-acquired defensive linemen Chris Canty and Rocky Bernard.
