At the Scouting Combine, Colts coach Chuck Pagano created a strong impression that quarterback Josh Freeman would get a chance to compete as a member of the team’s 90-man offseason roster. Something has happened in the last week and a half, because Freeman is now gone.

Freeman joined the Colts for the Week 17 finale in Indianapolis, helping to secure a win over the Titans with fellow quarterback Ryan Lindley, who also has been released.

Freeman had previously been available, after failed stints in various cities following his abrupt termination by the Buccaneers during the 2013 season. He has spent time with the Vikings, Giants, and Dolphins, with only two regular-season appearances following his departure from Tampa Bay. He also had a short and unremarkable stint in the FXFL.
