Cotchery looks “sharp” in return to practice

Ted Ginn may not be prominently involved in this Sunday’s game at the Meadowlands, but things are looking up for one receiver known for making tough catches, rather than dropping easy ones.

Jets wideout Jerricho Cotchery returned to practice in a limited fashion. He’s missed the last two weeks with a hamstring injury, but reportedly “looked sharp” in drills Wednesday. Jets coach Rex Ryan has previously expressed confidence that Cotchery will play this week.

Cotchery’s presence may be even more crucial because fellow wideout David Clowney missed practice with a knee injury. Guard Brandon Moore and cornerback Lito Sheppard were also out.

For the Dolphins, Ryan and Mike Florio’s favorite linebacker Channing Crowder did not practice because of a shoulder injury.

Sunday marks a turning point game in Ryan’s season. If New York loses again to Miami, the Jets will be 1-3 in the AFC East and two games behind New England in the loss column. The best way to beat Miami is through the air, but Mark Sanchez has to prove that he’s up for it. (And that he’s well nourished before the game.)

The game figures to be so close, I’m struggling to settle on a selection for my PFT picks, due tonight. Perhaps the unbiased members of PFT Planet can chime in below with a little help.
