In an entertaining interview with ESPN The Magazine, Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett shared his feeling that Jay Cutler is the “worst quarterback in the NFL.”
Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett went on to explain that when the two players were with the Bears, Cutler “would throw into double coverage” when Bennett was open in another part of the field. When asked about the former Bear’s comments after practice Wednesday, Cutler said he “could say something clever and smart” about why players not with the Bears anymore still talk about him but opted for a different approach.
“I’m really not going to get into that,” Cutler said, via CBS Chicago. “Most receivers and tight ends are always open. Hopefully, Tom [Brady], I guess, can do a better job of finding him than I did.”
Bennett wasn’t the only former Cutler target sharing his thoughts on the quarterback this week. During an appearance on ESPN, Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall said “Jay Cutler can be an MVP this year” if Alshon Jeffery is healthy and Kevin White makes good on his potential so it’s not like everyone is lobbing verbal grenades in Cutler’s direction.
Cutler didn’t delve too deeply into Marshall’s comments either, choosing to wish both of his former teammates good luck this season before presumably moving on to things that may have some bearing on how the season plays out in Chicago.
