When Clemson defensive end Da’Quan Bowers declared for the NFL draft in January, there was talk that he could be the first overall pick.
Instead, he went 50 picks later.
Bowers, who was dropped from many teams’ draft boards because of questions about his knee, was finally taken in the second round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with the 51st overall pick.
Bowers led college football in sacks and tackles for loss in 2010, so there’s no questioning his on-field production at Clemson. But there are plenty of questions about his health. Many teams didn’t clear him, but the Buccaneers’ doctors apparently did.
And if the Bucs’ doctors are right, Tampa Bay just got a steal.
