San Diego Chargers rookie fourth-round defensive lineman Vaughn Martin’s four-year rookie contract is worth $2.236 million, according to a league source.
That includes a $486,000 signing bonus and minimum base salaries of $310,000 in 2009, $395,000 in 2010, $480,000 in 2011 and $565,000 in 2012.
The deal also includes a fourth-year escalator clause that could increase the total value to $2.979 million.
The athletic 6'3", 333-pound Canada native played defensive tackle, defensive end and fullback at Western Ontario.
Martin was offered a scholarship to Michigan State out of high school, but didn’t qualify academically and went to prep school before enrolling at Western Ontario.
In two seasons, Martin recorded 92 tackles, 7 1/2 sacks and 17 1/2 tackles for losses.
