If you’re thinking about Christmas gifts for your favorite Packers running back, perhaps you could find a Ryan Mallett alarm clock for Eddie Lacy.
Via Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Lacy said he was downstairs in the team hotel in Detroit when he “lost track of time” and missed curfew.
That’s why he was in the doghouse and the team fired a shot across the bow last week, as he got just four carries against the Lions and then saw them bring Montee Ball in for a workout.
“Just be aware of time, honestly,” Lacy said of what he learned from the situation. “It’s a life lesson. It’s a lesson learned, and then it’s something that you move forward from.”
Of course, others might have viewed it differently, though coach Mike McCarthy said Lacy was “rejuvenated” after they had a little talk.
“We had a conversation internally,” Lacy said, “and they know that whenever I’m out on the field I’m going to do exactly what I have to do. I’m not a guy that makes a lot of mistakes, or bad things off the field either. So that’s something they know they don’t have to worry about.
“We put it behind us, and we’re moving forward. I think we both got things out in that conversation, and we’re both moving forward from that incident.”
Of course, there was also some collateral damage from the incident, as backup running back Alonzo Harris missed curfew with him. But he was cut, and not even signed back to the practice squad. Lacy called that “devastating,” but it should bring his situation into focus for him.
Were he not talented enough to help the Packers win games, he’d probably be unemployed alongside Harris, and the two would have plenty of time to hang out in hotel lobbies.
