A 44-7 season-ending loss to the Vikings means the Giants wound up allowing 427 points this season, the second-highest total in franchise history.
Said Giants C Shaun O’Hara, “To play like that two weeks in a row is disrespectful to the logo that’s on our helmet. The Maras and the Tisches, the Giants franchise, the organization and the fans certainly deserve better than they received the last two weeks from the players.”
After the game, the Giants announced that five players, including DE Justin Tuck and FB Madison Hedgecock, will have surgery during the offseason.
Giants QB Eli Manning threw for 141 yards, giving him a career-best 4,021 yards on the season.
The Giants ran for 35 yards and their season total of 1,837 is the lowest since Tom Coughlin became head coach.
Vikings QB Brett Favre threw for 316 yards and four touchdowns before being lifted in the third quarter.
RB Adrian Peterson didn’t get his first carry until more than 11 minutes into the game, but the Vikings said the usage wasn’t a result of his fumbles.
Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com writes that Sunday’s game showed that the Vikings offense is at its best this season when it is throwing the ball.
The Vikings forced two turnovers, had three sacks and held the Giants to 181 total yards.
Said Vikings DE Brian Robison, “I just think the problem is, the last few games we kind of had a little hiccup. People have changed their blocking schemes against us because we have rushed the passer so well. It’s just a matter of finding ways to get to the quarterback. Sometimes you have to change up your rushes to get to the quarterback, and I think we did a good job of doing that today.”
