Broncos safety Brian Dawkins has a broken hand that required surgery, according to the Denver Post, which credits several team sources.
The information hasn’t been disclosed publicly because, well, Josh McDaniels is adhering to the “all injuries are equal until they cause you to hit injured reserve” script mastered by his mentor Bill Belichick.
When a coach from the Parcells/Belichick tree get a new coaching job, it’s always interesting to watch the friction between the coaching staff and media as the scribes get accustomed to the new rules.
Earlier Thursday, multiple teammates of Dawkins said that his injury was “sad,” indicating that it may be more than a day-to-day scenario.
That’s another sign of a nascent Belichick pupil team. In New England, the players would be trained well enough to stay tight lipped.
Dawkins is expected to return in two weeks, so the injury isn’t a major concern.
