Jadeveon Clowney making progress, may play Monday night

The Texans may finally get the No. 1 overall pick back on the field on Monday night.

Texans coach Bill O’Brien says Jadeveon Clowney, the rookie pass rusher who has been sidelined since a Week One knee injury, is continuing to improve and looking like he has a shot of playing when the Texans take on the Steelers on Monday.

“He’s progressing,” O’Brien told Texans Radio. “He’s working really hard to get back and I would say it’s 50/50. Yeah, I think we have a long time here to get ready for Pittsburgh, longer than normal so hopefully, that bodes well for him being ready to go but I can’t guarantee you that he’ll be here for Pittsburgh.”

When Clowney first suffered the injury on the opening Sunday of the season, the Texans indicated he’d be out 4-6 weeks. Monday will be exactly six weeks since he had arthroscopic knee surgery, so if he’s not ready to go Monday, that would indicate this turned out to be a more serious injury than the Texans first believed. It makes sense for the Texans to take it slow and be cautious with their talented rookie, but it will be a bit of a disappointment if Monday turns out not to be the night when he makes his return.
