Despite a widespread belief that the Raiders would be cutting quarterback JaMarcus Russell after trading for Jason Campbell, Russell hasn’t been cut. And when an offseason mandatory minicamp launched on Friday, Russell was there.
And he has practiced with the team.
Bill Williamson of ESPN.com reports that Russell appears to be in “decent shape,” and not in the 300-pound range, contrary to recent reports to that effect. Williamson also reported early in the practice session that Russell was engaged in the same activities as the other players. Some (i.e., us) believed that the Raiders might keep him from doing anything that could expose him to injury, given that an extra $6.45 million in salary remains in the balance.
