Sometimes retirements catch you by surprise, and sometimes that’s because you thought they already happened.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Jason Campbell is set to retire. He hasn’t announced anything yet, but with camps on the horizon and him not in one, “that’s his plan.”
Campbell, who was Washington’s first-round pick in 2005, threw 19 passes for the Bengals last year, but last started in 2013 for the Browns. He’s also done time with the Raiders and Bears.
While he wasn’t a terrible quarterback, he played for some pretty bad teams and failed to make them better, finishing with a career record of 32-47 as a starter.
It’s easy to argue he deserved better than that, as he finished his career with an 81.7 rating and 87 touchdowns against 60 interceptions, so it clearly wasn’t all on him.
