The Steelers season came to an end last Sunday night, but one member of the team still had some league housekeeping to take care of this week.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that linebacker Jason Worilds has been fined $10,000 for striking an opposing player in the head. Worilds was flagged for a personal foul during Pittsburgh’s loss to the Ravens at the end of a Justin Forsett run. Worilds took a swipe at Ravens tight end Crockett Gilmore’s head after the two tussled during the play.
Steelers safety Mike Mitchell and Ravens cornerback Rashaan Melvin each drew personal fouls during the game as well, but both players have avoided further discipline from the league.
Worilds’s offseason should be an interesting one. He played out the 2014 season on the transition tag and the team could use it or the franchise tag to keep him from hitting the open market. The tag paid him just over $9.75 million and the cost would be higher this time around for a player with 16 sacks over the last two seasons.
