Jets coach Todd Bowles said earlier this week that center Nick Mangold’s neck injury is “not as bad” as the team thought it was when he went down against the Patriots last Sunday.
That’s good news for Mangold, obviously, but it may not mean that he’s well enough to play in Oakland this weekend. The Jets made a roster move to give themselves more insurance against that possibility on Wednesday.
The team announced that they have signed Wesley Johnson to the active roster. Johnson was a sixth-round pick by the Steelers in 2014 and joined the Jets on waivers later in the year. He saw time at center during the preseason and landed on the practice squad after failing to make the cut to 53 players.
Dakota Dozier filled in for Mangold on the final few plays of last Sunday’s game.
