The Jets have done plenty of work to upgrade their secondary already this offseason, but they could use a pass rusher off the edge to make Todd Bowles’ defense a stronger unit.
That pass rusher may come with the sixth pick in the draft. Earlier this week we heard that the team would be meeting with Florida’s Dante Fowler and Wednesday brings word that several of the draft’s other top edge players will also meet with the team. Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that they’ll also host Missouri’s Shane Ray and Kentucky’s Bud Dupree and Ian Rapoport of NFL Media adds Clemson’s all-time sack leader Vic Beasley to the list.
All those players have drawn a lot of interest throughout the pre-draft process with Dupree looking like he’s headed for a higher draft position than some predicted at the end of the college season. The Jets have Quinton Coples and Calvin Pace at outside linebacker, but their best pass rush in the last couple of years has come from their talented defensive linemen.
The Jets haven’t been limited to meetings with pass rushers. They’re also talking to the top quarterbacks and wide receivers in a draft class that meshes well with Jets needs early in the first round.
