On the day their longtime left tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson announced his retirement, the Jets brought back some depth at the position.

Ben Ijalana, an offensive tackle who spent the last three years with the team, has re-signed with the Jets.

It’s a long shot that Ijalana would be Ferguson’s successor as the starting left tackle. He has played in just seven regular-season games in his NFL career, and he has never started a game.

The Colts traded up to draft Ijalana in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft, but he tore his ACL in his rookie season and never played for the Colts again. He so far hasn’t come close to meeting his potential, but the Jets think he has potential at a position that has just become a need.
